All four companies made it to their goal to hide complaints, spam, scams, and offensive and inappropriate comments.
This article compares the four Community Management tools to determine the best fit for your current needs and budget.
We prepared a dataset of 30 comments and tested whether the Social Media protection tools would hide the inappropriate ones and keep the relevant ones visible on the profile.

Sign-up process
The sign-up process for BrandFort is simple. After you create your user account, you have the option to connect your Facebook and Instagram pages. As soon as you have done these easy steps, you are within the Dashboard of BrandFort.
Precision of AI
The state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence of BrandFort did an excellent job in identifying inappropriate comments of all kinds and categorized 30 of 30 comments correct.
We were pleased to see that the AI detected clients’ complaints such as this one “How long for your team to get back? Don’t you have a timeframe?” with ease. A category type that other providers do not detect.
In addition, we were impressed by the BrandFort AI to detect spam as the following: “in this case, More emphasis should be put into tradiing as it is less affected by the unpredictable nature of the market. Ive made over 10btc from tradng with Peter Gerard Mack’s insight and signals in less than 6months, The pump and dump has been a perfect eyeopener for us all to really see how unpredictable the market can.“
Spam related to Bitcoin is currently taking over Youtube channels, and the AI of BrandFort can easily detect such spam.
Ease of use
BrandFort is easy to use. All icons have a clear label, which makes the product self-explanatory. In addition, BrandFort allows you to answer any comment quickly. This function is handy for a comment, which BrandFort identified as an inquiry or complaint.
Pricing
BrandFort Pro costs $19.99/ month. The plan allows you to monitor an unlimited amount of brands. In addition, you can add three users to the account without any additional charge.

Brandbastion
Sign-up process
Brandbastion offers a free trial, which does not require a credit card. Testing a product without providing a credit card beforehand is always lovely!
In the first step, we provided our work e-mail; in the second step, we added our details, and in the final stage, we linked our assets (Facebook + Instagram account) with Branbastion. That’s what we call an easy sign-up process.
Precision of AI
Unfortunately,y there is no free trial available for Brandbastion – “Safety”. Therefore, our testing was limited to the “Intelligence” module.
Concerning comment classification, the “Intelligence” module only provides sentiment classification. Therefore, our testing efforts were limited to it.
The AI classified 15 comments as comments with a negative sentiment, which we agree with.
In addition, Brandbastion classified nine comments with a neutral sentiment. We noted that the following comments were classified as neutral, although we would assess them as comments with a negative sentiment:
- Thanks. So, in summary, your tracking system is not to be relied upon for accuracy?
- I’ve already been on your live chat without any help. I’ve now filled in the form above.
- Package due to be delivered today. Two hours ago your tracking page said “Driver is making 3 deliveries before yours”, now it says there are “7 deliveries before yours”. Is it being delivered in a DeLorean per chance? #backtothefuture #timemac

Ease of use
The product is nicely designed and intuitive. However, we faced several issues when using the page with Safari. After clicking on a link within the Dashboard, the page did not load. Therefore, we switched to Google Chrome and could use the site without issues.
Pricing
Unfortunately, there is no pricing information available. We are assuming that Brandbastion is within a higher pricing tier.

HIVE Moderation
Sign-up process
We signed up for HIVE Moderation by providing our e-mail address and password. However, the HIVE dashboard is not accessible. To look at the actual product, you need to schedule a demo with the Sales team.
Precision of AI
We performed a quick test of the AI of HIVE Moderation. If you want to play with the AI yourself, you can do so under this section “See our classes and text filters in action“.
We were surprised by the lack of precision of the AI. HIVE moderation correctly classified the following comment as spam: “Click here for buying followers www.buyhere.com“.
However, the AI did not classify the following comment as spam “Click on my profile for buying followers”.
We are surprised by this result, considering that the second comment is your typical spam comment on Instagram. State-of-the-art AI should easily detect such a comment.

Ease of use
Hive moderation is not offering a free trial. Therefore, we were not able to test the tool.
Pricing
Unfortunately, there is no pricing information available. We are assuming that HIVE Moderation is within a higher pricing tier.
Detectable content
- Sexual: Classify text for sexually explicit or suggestive content
- Violence: Flag content containing extreme threats of violence
- Cyberbullying: Identify bullying or abusive language in real-time
- Hate: Detect hate speech with high levels of granularity
- Spam: Mark language designed to take you to a different platform as spam
Supported platforms
HIVE Moderation does not directly support any Social Media platform. Instead, Hive offers an API, which integrates with Hive’s machine learning models.

Smartmoderation
Sign-up process
Smartmoderation offers a free trial on their homepage. However, this trial only lasts three days, so be careful.
We had to create an account for the sign-up and select a plan. We were forwarded to the next page on which we had to provide our credit card details. The page clarifies that Smartmoderation will charge us US$948.00 per year if we don’t cancel after three days. So be extra mindful with this trial.
In a final step, we are forwarded to the Dashboard, which allows us to connect our Social Media profiles.
Precision of AI
The Artificial Intelligence of Smartmoderation did not meet our expectations. Although Smartmoderation claims to “deliver complete protection for your Social Media and Websites through detection of illegal and inappropriate comments”, we did not make this experience with our test dataset.
The AI could only identify obvious spam comments, such as this one, “Buy followers here!“. However, the AI could not detect any negative sentiment or customer complaints.

Ease of use
As noted above, the sign-up process was easy. In addition, we were able to link our Facebook page quickly with Smartmoderation without any issues. However, we did not experience the user interface as intuitive. Not all buttons are labelled, and the controls are not self-explanatory.
Pricing
The price for Smartmoderation starts with the basic plan at $99/ month. This plan allows the monitoring of 1 profile and one user account. If you wish to monitor up to 3 profiles, you have to pay $249/ month for the Pro plan. Note, if you want to give more than one user access to Smartmoderation, you require the Enterprise plan – the pricing for this plan is not public.
